Dear friends of Child Haiti,

We sent the $700 that we fundraised (through two fundraisers and a few independent donations) down to Haiti with a group from Saint Mary’s. In their words, “We delivered the money to Davidson, and he walked us around Cite Soleil introducing us to various families who were recipients of the funds. Nice work!”

Our partners in Haiti expressed their most sincere gratitude for your donations and have sent us a proposal for how the money will be used:

1. Education ($200): Given that it is the summer here, the children of the organization are already on vacation, so we are working to prepare for the beginning of the school year in September. This means that we need more school supplies especially since the number of kids in our program has increased. Because of this we will buy notebooks, books, pencils, pens, rulers, backpacks...

2. Health ($100): We will resupply our pharmacy because recently the kids have often been getting sick and some have even been hospitalized. This money will be used to buy a first aid kit and other necessary medical supplies to keep our kids healthy.

3. Nutrition ($150): The food we will buy with this money will help our kids be in better physical condition because many of them lost weight recently. We want to feed them well during their vacation so that when they go back to school they are healthy and ready to go to school to receive a quality education.

4. Craft ($100): We will invest in the craft domain so that our kids can create art pieces for a typical Haitian fair that we are planning. This means that the kids will create objects typical to our culture such as bracelets, necklaces, cards, furniture, canvas rings, floral art and many other things.

5. Environment ($50): We want to reforest our neighborhood because it has been devastated by deforestation. This work will be done to protect our community from natural catastrophes such as floods, landslides, cyclones...

6. Sports ($50): We will buy materials to help the kids become physically fit so that they stay healthy.

7. Savings ($50): We will deposit this money so that we can access it in case of major problems.

Lastly, the summer camp, “Tonnelle des Enfants” has just begun. In Davidson and Geleste’s words, “This camp, that takes place outside in the community of Cité Soleil, will help the kids develop relationships with each other.” Right now, the kids are hard at work, crafting, planting, and having a lot of fun. Here are a few pictures:

Everyone here at Child Haiti is so thankful to see the progress that has been made over the course of this year. Thank you for your continued support!
